Fortnite Announces Free Battle Royale Mode

Play Fortnite's 100 player Battle Royale mode for free this September.

Fortnite has announced that their new Battle Royale mode will be free for all players on September 26th. Fortnite is currently in early access, and while it will be free-to-play on launch in 2018, you must currently buy a Founder's Pack to play early. However, this new Battle Royal mode is free for everyone, even those without Founder's Packs or early access.

It is pretty clear where the inspiration for the Battle Royal mode comes from, as 100 players are dropped into a large map to battle it out. Yes, this is Battlegrounds again. Fortnite's colorful characters is a refreshing visual take on the genre however, as PUBG and H1Z1 are more serious takes.

Fortnite, a game primarily about building forts, will also bring new gameplay options to the Battle Royale genre. Players can build structures for protection, or bridges to reach new areas.

You can find out for free if Fortnite belongs with the heavyweights like PUBG and H1Z1 when the Battle Royale mode launches for Xbox One, PS4 and PC on September 26th.
