New Building-Heavy PUBG Map Revealed

I hope you like fighting around buildings.

It was recently revealed that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be receiving a new desert-themed map at some point in the future. Brendan Greene, the man himself behind the hugely successful game, originally Tweeted out the reveal back in July. But now with Gamescom in full swing, more details of the map have surfaced.

The new PUBG desert map image was revealed at Gamescom 2017. Lots of buildings, not many trees.

As you can see in the image above, the new desert map seems to have a major focus on city combat, with dozens of high-rise apartment buildings in an urban sprawl. If the early concepts of the desert map are still the acting foundation, this is likely the centre of the map with numerous smaller towns off to the sides.

The WIP image is probably the center mass of buildings on this sketch.

Though the image is essentially a doodle on a napkin, if the work-in-progress image is an accurate representation of the sketch, it appears as if this new map will be significantly smaller than what we currently have in PUBG.

In the event the new PUBG map is smaller, it begs the question whether or not the game mechanics will be tweaked to account for the smaller size. We’ve discussed previously the deadliness of the Blue Zones, but in a map so small, their threat wouldn’t be an issue until the third or fourth circle – for the average player.

Whatever the case, it’s good to see that other aspects of the game are still being developed. While it's important that bugs are being fixed, once the wrinkles are ironed out, players will want more content – so it’s good that both sides are being taken care of simultaneously.

Bug fixes and content development aren't handled by the same teams, so rest assured that new content isn't preventing errors from being corrected.

While we wait for the new map to release, we might as well continue trying to earn more Battle Points. Those who are new to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, be sure to check out our PUBG weapons and stats guide.
