Top 10 Biggest Fails in PlayStation History

The titans of home-consoles haven't always made brilliant decisions.

Holiday 2004 Demo Disc

Back before you downloaded a demo onto your HDD from your console’s marketplace, there were these things called discs. Kind of like the 4K/HDR discs you can’t use in the PS4 Pro, but with much less storage space and games terrible (by today’s standards) graphics.

In 2004, Sony released the Holiday 2004 Demo Disc which contained a Viewtiful Joe 2 demo. The problem here was that the demo wiped memory cards, erasing dozens of hours of your hard work in games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It would be like if someone went into your PS4 today and erased all of the saved game data you have on your HDD, and you had no online backup. In other words, it really sucked.

It’s rather amazing that this blunder made it out into the wild, honestly. Did nobody at Sony pop that disc into a console with a full memory card connected and not end up wondering what happened with all the data?
