Battlefield 1 Expansion Adds New Supply Drop Mode

In the Name of the Tsar will introduce Supply Drop mode to Battlefield 1.

New details were revealed regarding Battlefield 1’s upcoming expansion In the Name of the Tsar during the EA Play E3 press conference over the weekend. Along with new weapons, maps, and Operations, In the Name of the Tsar will introduce players to a new game mode called Supply Drop.

According to PCGamesN, Supply Drop is based on the way supplies were distributed to the Eastern Front during the first World War. The battlefield covered a massive stretch of land, making it difficult to send resources to soldiers on the frontlines. Supply drops had to be flown in to distribute resources to soldiers, which is essentially what happens in this new game mode.

In the Name of the Tsar will include six new Russian-themed maps.

How Supply Drop Mode Works

The Battlefield 1 Supply Drop mode will pit teams against one another in a virtual tug-of-war for supply boosts and resources. The goal is to capture each aerial supply drop before the enemy team does, and the team with the most capture points wins. Supply drops typically contain bonus resources such as ammo or health resupplies for your team, but supply drops can also offer vehicles or Elite Class pickups that help the capturing team gain an edge in battle.

The new Supply Drop game mode is currently playable at E3, but those of us at home will have to wait for the expansion to come out later this summer to experience the new mode in Battlefield 1.

Along with the game mode, In the Name of the Tsar will also add 11 new Russian-themed weapons to Battlefield 1 such as the Mosin-Nagant M91, as well as six new Russian maps set in World War I, including Lupkow Pass, Albion, Galicia, and Brusilov Keep. You can get a quick glimpse of the new maps in the official teaser trailer above.

According to the Battlefield website, the upcoming expansion will also bring several new vehicles and tactical mechanics to the snow-covered Russian front, including stationary coastal gun batteries, as well as an “all-new lance and evolved horse move set”.

In the Name of the Tsar is set to launch in September 2017, and is included as part of the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass. Until then, players can enjoy two new nighttime maps and an August update as part of Battlefield 1’s planned summer content. The Nivelle Nights map will arrive this month, while Prise De Tahure will be available in July. Let us know what feature of In the Name of the Tsar you're looking forward to the most!
