The Evil Within
Anticipation for Tango Gameworks’ third-person horror title, The Evil Within, was fairly high during the run up to its 2014 release. This was primarily because the head of Tango Gameworks just so happens to be Shinji Mikami, the man who created Capcom’s iconic Resident Evil series.
While The Evil Within allows players to fight back against the foes using firearms and other weapons, the heavy emphasis on resource scarcity adds an extra layer of tension to every combat encounter. As such, players want to survive, but they also don’t want to waste too many items doing so.
With this system in place, the tension continues to increase as the chances of surviving the next encounter are gradually reduced. The Evil Within’s story might have wound up being more confusing than compelling, but for players hoping to find a thrilling callback to the early Resident Evil games, The Evil Within certainly delivers a truly horrifying experience.
