Heed the Crow’s Warning

A little-known tip for surviving The Long Dark would be to pay close attentions to the Crows in the game. You may have noticed that they often circle dead bodies and animal carcasses, but did you know that they also warn you about changes in the weather, and even when there’s a Bear in the vicinity?

If you see Crows above you and flying in a circle, that tells you that there is something dead below them. It might be a Deer carcass or a dead body, but there is something there. On the other hand, if you see them flying straight overhead, that indicates the weather is about to change. If it’s calm, it could mean there’s a storm incoming, in which case it’s time for you to get back to a suitable shelter.

Finally, Crows can also be heard when there is a Bear nearby. These Crows are heard, but not seen. They also sound slightly different than the Crows that circle over your head or fly by to indicate a shift in the weather. It’s hard to explain, but the point is you should pay close attention to the sounds that Crows make in the game and use it as a warning system for various situations that can positively or negatively impact your chances of survival.
