Survival Tips for The Long Dark

Tips to help you survive on any difficulty in The Long Dark.

Use Your Time Wisely

Too many players in The Long Dark pass time when they should be doing something to improve their situation. While you can get away with wasting time on Pilgrim and Voyager, you’ll need to use every minute efficiently to survive on Stalker and Interloper. There’s always one more thing that you can do to improve your chances of survival.

Start by combing through your backpack or the containers with loot at your home base. We’ll often harvest items to create more Tinder, manage and repair our clothing to optimize it for our play style, sharpen our Hunting Knife and Hatchet, or clean our Hunting Rifle (unloaded, of course). If you have any books, read them, and if you have a couple of hours left on a fire, melt snow and boil water. On our current play through, we have more than 50 liters of reserve water sitting at our base.
