This guide will show players how to complete the Songs from the Void quest in Destiny, unlocking the Nova Mortis Machinegun. Completing this quest will unlock the next Exotic Quest, Hymns of Fire.
Step 1: Talk to Ikora Rey
Once you have the Songs from the Void Exotic Quest, head to the Tower and speak with Ikora Rey. It’s a nice and easy way to begin a quest.
Step 2: Banshee Knows
Go talk to Banshee-44 and he’ll give you the first real step in this quest. All-in-all it’s not too difficult at any point.
Step 3: Experience Breeds Excellence
To complete Songs from the Void and unlock the Nova Mortis, you’ll need to get 100 points from Void ability kills. We did this with our Hunter as we ventured to a Patrol on Earth. When you spawn in you’ll be at the Steppes, which is the perfect location to get your kills. Obviously, you’ll have to use your Nightstalker subclass, and we opted for the Vortex Grenade, Quiver for Shadowshot, and Smoke for our melee. Regardless of your subclass (it must be Void, though), move around the area and kill the pockets of enemies. You’ll get five points for each Void ability kill, so you only need 20 in total.
Step 4: Return to Banshee-44
Go talk to Banshee-44 in the Tower so he can tell you that you haven’t done enough. Of course you haven’t. What kind of an Exotic Quest is that easy?
Step 5: Waking Nova Mortis
You need to complete the Abomination Heist Strike on the Moon. Head to Orbit, select the Moon, and then the Summoning Pits Strike. Change the difficulty to 320 and it will change to the Abomination Heist Strike. There’s nothing fancy going on here. Just complete the Strike and move on to the final step.
Step 6: Speak to Ikora Rey
Head back to the Tower and speak to Ikora Rey. She’ll reward you with the Nova Mortis now that you’ve completed the Songs from the Void quest, which will lead you to the Hymns of Fire Exotic quest.
