The Dinosaurs (Battlefield 3 and 4)

You may know about a certain large beast from the prehistoric period that showed up in a Battlefield game (more on him later), but what you may not know is that before Battlefield players ventured out into the high seas in search of leviathans, they encountered more traditional prehistoric animals not once, but twice.

First, in Battlefield 3, players who took to the skies while playing on the game’s Nebandan Flats map would sometimes encounter a pterodactyl just flying around. There didn’t seem to be any specific trigger for making the pterodactyl appear and it sadly couldn’t be interacted with in any way. The below video shows a player encountering the pterodactyl while piloting a jet.

As for the second dinosaur sighting, it sadly wasn’t a “sighting” so much as it was a distinct audio cue that could be triggered on Battlefield 4’s Rogue Transmission map by finding two specific button switches that were hidden in different parts of the map and pushing them both within a limited timeframe. Doing so would cause a group of trees on the edge of the map to start rustling and a loud roar to emit from the area where the trees were, hinting that a tyrannosaurus rex was stomping around the periphery of the map.
