What Equipment to Buy for Each Tank Type

Every tank type in World of Tanks and what equipment it needs.

Knowing what equipment to buy for your tank in World of Tanks can be a bit tricky for new players. It’s an expensive endeavour and one you don’t want to mess up. Below, you’ll find a guideline on what equipment you should buy depending on your tank type and playstyle.

As always, this is just a guideline, as your skills increase and as you learn to improve at World of Tanks, you will have a better idea of what works well. Once you’ve farmed plenty of credits, you should feel more comfortable experimenting with your builds.

What Equipment to Buy for Light Tanks

In World of Tanks, picking the right equipment for your Light tank can be a bit tough for new players. There are quite a few different pieces of equipment, many of which are expensive. However, when you do manage to save up the credits, there are a few options worth pursuing.

First, here’s what equipment you should mount on your Light tank:

  • Camouflage Net
  • Improved Ventilation
  • Coated Optics
  • Binocular Telescope
  • Enhanced Gun Laying Drive

These are the main five pieces of equipment that work well on Light tanks, though not all of these pieces are good for various types of Light tanks. Light tanks that scout come in two forms; active scouts that continue to move around the battlefield, and passive scouts which sit on the edges.

For Light tanks that will be active scouts, Coated Optics are the preferred choice, as they increase your view range despite being in motion. The same applies with the Enhanced Gun Laying Drive, which reduces the aim time of your tank. The Enhanced Gun Laying Drive also works well when paired with the Vertical Stabilizer, so it’s less of a must-have and more of an optional add-on.

For Light tanks that will be passive (sitting still), the Binocular Telescope is preferred as it boosts the view range when the tank is motionless.

Though, the obvious choices for Light tanks will be Improved Ventilation to increase the efficiency of your crew as well as Camouflage Nets for the passive scouts.

What Equipment to Buy for Medium Tanks

Medium tanks offer a middle ground in terms of playstyle, and as such, the best equipment to buy for a Medium tank is rather simple.

  • Improved Ventilation
  • Gun Rammer
  • Vertical Stabilizer
  • Enhanced Gun Laying Drive

Improved Ventilation should be a purchase on every tank type as it directly increases the efficiency of your crew.

A Medium tank will benefit greatly from a Gun Rammer as it decreases the gun-loading time, making it faster at getting shells out of the main gun and into the enemy vehicle.

Equipping a Medium tank with a Vertical Stabilizer will net a reduction in accuracy penalties, meaning it reaches its optimal accuracy faster. This is extremely helpful when playing peak-a-boom with other tanks, as the improved accuracy time will help you take shots sooner.

Enhanced Gun Laying Drive pairs nicely with the Vertical Stabilizers thanks to its additional improvement to your aim time.

What Equipment to Buy for Heavy Tanks

Heavy tanks mainly struggle with aim time, so below are a few pieces of equipment that will help improve your Heavy tanks in World of Tanks.

  • Improved Ventilation
  • Gun Rammer
  • Vertical Stabilizer
  • Enhanced Gun Laying Drive

Much like Medium tanks, Heavy tanks can benefit from Improved Ventilation and the Gun Rammer. These will improve the efficiency of your crew and help you dish out more damage in your Heavy tank.

For Heavy tanks with poor aim time, Vertical Stabilizers will help your tank reach its maximum accuracy faster. However, if your tank does not have access to Vertical Stabilizers, opt for the Enhanced Gun Laying Drive to help improve your overall aim time.

What Equipment to Buy for Tank Destroyers

Tank destroyers tend to stick to the edges of the battlefield, so the equipment to buy for a Tank destroyer is fairly straightforward. Although, there are a few different options for the third piece of equipment.

  • Improved Ventilation
  • Gun Rammer
  • Coated Optics
  • Enhanced Gun Laying Drive
  • Camouflage Net
  • Binocular Telescope

Improved Ventilation is always a good choice; however, in some instances, it won’t be available on a Tank destroyer due to the opened roof.

Coated Optics, much like an active Light tank, will improve your view range when in motion. Keep in mind, though, that a Binocular Telescope will serve you better if your playstyle tends towards sitting still.

Following this, the Enhanced Gun Laying Drive is excellent at reducing a Tank destroyer’s aim time, allowing you to shoot sooner. Speaking of shooting first, a Gun Rammer will decrease the time it takes for you to load another shellso it’s always worth picking up for Tank destroyers with slow reloads.

Finally, the Camouflage Net is an obvious choice as a Tank destroyer will, most of the time, be completely stationary when sniping enemies. This will help keep you unseen and in the battle for longer.

What Equipment to Buy for SPGs

Picking good equipment for an SPG is fairly simple, as they all play the same (the main differences being aim time and accuracy).

  • Gun Rammer
  • Binocular Telescope
  • Coated Optics
  • Enhanced Gun Laying Drive
  • Camouflage Net

This selection of equipment for SPGs should hopefully be obvious considering they all tailor toward decreasing the time before you can fire your next round, decreasing aim time, and increasing your view rangewhile also helping to keep you hidden.

The Gun Rammer, as mentioned above, will ensure your next round is loaded faster, while the Binocular Telescope or Coated Optics will increase your view range, ensuring you can see your enemy. The difference between these two will depend on whether you will be firing within 3 seconds of repositioning your hull as the Binoculars take three seconds to activate after becoming stationary.

Using the Enhanced Gun Laying Drive will improve your aim time, which is handy as a lot of SPGs can suffer from excruciatingly slow aim times. Finally, the most obvious piece of equipment to purchase for an SPG is the Camouflage Net due to the fact you'll sitting still for 90% of the battle.

While you can purchase whatever equipment you want for each tank type, there are some guidelines you should follow. Once you understand the basics of equipment, you might find that you want to branch out and play with other pieces of equipment on your tank. For newcomers, the above examples are a great starting point when first venturing into purchasing equipment. Let me know in the comments what equipment you think should be used for each type of tank!
