6 Things Gamers Could Buy Instead of the Nintendo Switch

You might be better off skipping the Nintendo Switch for one of these gaming options.

ASUS MG278Q 27” 144Hz 2K Monitor

If you’ve been playing your PC games in 1080p and 60Hz, you think you know what looks good, but you really don’t. If you want to take a big step up in the graphics department, think about going 2K and 144Hz. Yes, I’m saying 2K, not 4K. At this point, 4K is still a bit wonky and often comes at the expense of those precious frames per second. 2K and 144Hz is night and day better than 1080p and 60Hz, and you still get the frame rates that make PC gaming so desirable.

The monitor in the image isn't the ASUS MG278Q, but you can find that at most online retailers.

The ASUS MG278Q 27” monitor is selling on Newegg for $509. A tad more than the Nintendo Switch, but again, not really if you buy anything more than I included in my bundle. Plus, this monitor supports a 2560x1440 resolution (2K), and has a refresh rate of 144Hz. The only word of caution I have is that you’ll want to make sure your video card (and PC in general) can keep up. Again, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 is the way to go for this, so if you already have one, the ASUS MG278Q 27” 144Hz 2K Monitor is a logical choice. Don't be afraid to shop around for something comparable, however.
