Nintendo updates Switch mobile app

Chat to people while your phone screen is switched off.

Nintendo has finally updated the Switch mobile companion app to add some basic functionality that probably should have been there in the first place.

Nintendo Switch has been a roaring success so far, but when the companion app launched this summer, it was one of the console's few missteps.

Players hoped it would offer an easy way to engage in voice chat during Splatoon 2 multiplayer, but it quickly became apparent that you could only chat with other users while your phone screen was active, forcing players to tap the screen every few seconds to maintain connection to their team.

The latest update finally addresses this - you can now continue to voice chat when your phone screen is asleep and when opening other applications.
