How to Throw an Awesome Super Bowl Party

Keep these tips in mind if you're hosting a party for Super Bowl Sunday.

Super Bowl parties are all about friends, food, and of course, football. With Super Bowl 51 just around the corner, you’re probably already planning for the big game day yourself. Here are some tips to keep in mind for throwing an awesome Super Bowl party at your home on Sunday.

Stock the Fridge with Beer

Keep plenty of beverages on hand!

Beer is an essential staple for any Super Bowl party. If you don’t want to be stuck having to run to the store for more drinks during halftime, make sure you stock your fridge with enough beer and drinks for all your guests.

Grab extra cases of the beer brand you and your friends like the most, since those will probably be the first to go. While you’re at it, get a few bags of ice from the grocery store as well. Keep an assortment of beverages chilled in the fridge so that your guests have plenty of drink options throughout game day.

Fire Up the Grill

The real question is: charcoal or gas?

A Super Bowl party is the perfect time to fire up the grill. In fact, your friends will probably be looking forward to it. If you’ve got a grill, use it! Get some hot dogs, corn cobs, and any other tasty meats or veggies you like to grill, and have at it. You can even tell your guests to bring side dishes, potluck style.

Make Plenty of Snacks

Nachos, chips, and chicken wings all make great game day snacks.

As your friends begin to make a dent in the beer supply, they’re going to start craving some salty and cheesy snacks. Even if you’ve got things cooking on the grill, you should always have an assortment of finger foods and snacks ready for your awesome Super Bowl party. We came up with several easy-to-make Super Bowl snacks that are essential for game day. At the very least, prepare a veggie platter, pretzels, chips, and dip to keep your guests satiated throughout the day.

Stock Up on Toilet Paper

A few extra rolls of TP will go a long way.

Toilet paper may not be the first thing that comes to mind when planning a Super Bowl party, but trust us, you’ll probably need it. With all that beer and food, you should prepare your bathroom for more foot traffic than usual. Refill your supply of hand soap and air freshener as well, just in case.

Bust Out Extra Chairs and Seats

Couches fill up quick, so set out some extra seats.

No one wants to be cramped together on the couch or left standing off to the side while watching the big game. Make sure you set up enough chairs and seats for everyone. Ensure that all your guests have a clear view of the TV, and remember to close the curtains or blinds on windows that might cause a glare.

Also, clear the area of clutter and anything you don’t want knocked over, just in case you have a few clumsy buddies who like to throw footballs across the room.

Play Mini-Games on the Side

Although everyone’s attention will be towards the main game, you can incorporate some mini-games on the side to liven the Super Bowl party as well. You can set up a friendly bet for which team will win, or have guests wager guesses at what the final score will be. It doesn't have to be for money. Have a prize ready to give away at the end of the day to whoever wins your makeshift contest.

You can also just turn the football game into a drinking game, having some or all your guests take a drink whenever there’s a touchdown, etc. This can keep the party fun for everyone, even those who aren’t huge football fans or fans of the teams playing.

Hopefully these tips will help you throw a great Super Bowl party on Sunday. Let us know which team you’re rooting for in the comments below!
