Which Xbox One do I need on Black Friday?
There are most likely going to be three options for you this Black Friday: original 500GB Xbox One models at dramatically reduced prices; the Xbox One S 500GB or 1TB models bundled with one or two recent games at decent discounts; or the newly releasing Xbox One X and a game or UHD movie.
The Xbox One X should only really be an option if you plan to upgrade your display to a 4K TV, or have done already. This is a very high-end console, but if you aren’t going to join the 4K ranks in the next year then there’s not much it will do that other models can’t. Some very minor frame rate improvements and 1080p supersampling isn’t enough to rule out the likely huge savings you’ll make going for an earlier model.
The Xbox One S could also be a 4K option, given its ability to output UHD streaming services and Blu-Rays, but for the games it’s a solid 1080 machine. If that’s not a dealbreaker for you then the sleeker, smaller unit should be a shoe-in for your affections, especially given the better deals you’ll find for it. And if you don’t plan on putting the console on display then even the original launch Xbox One could be for you, with huge discounts.
