Sea of Thieves: The Hungering Deep trailer looks to the depths

Is that a Megalodon?

A trailer for Sea of Thieves' first chunky DLC, The Hungering Deep, has surfaced.

The simple trailer shares the tales of dangerous beasts lurking far below the depths that would punish the greedy or those who disturbed them. And no, we're not talking about the Kraken. The Hungering Deep brings new tools and game mechanics, but the real focus is on a new AI danger in what looks to be a large, shark-like creature.

The trailer's narrator, a pirate named Merrick, talks of ancient tribes who worshipped such beasts. To protect themselves they would "offer a sacrifice and in return were allowed to sail the seas undisturbed." Perhaps more interesting, Merrick also says some folk were capable of summoning the behemoth, which would be a mightily impressive feat to pull in the middle of one of Sea of Thieves ship battles.

Why should we need to ensure protection from such a creature? Well if the header image on Sea of Thieves' Twitter page is anything to go by, it's pretty bloody enormous. Ooh err.

Sea of Thieves: The Hungering Deep will launch as an update for Xbox One and PC on May 29.
