Beat Saber is a VR Rhythm Game for Star Wars Fans

Rock Band meets Star Wars in the upcoming VR rhythm game, Beat Saber.

If you’ve ever wanted to wield a lightsaber to the beat of a pulse-pounding music hook, then Beat Saber is for you. Beat Saber is an upcoming VR game from Hyperbolic magnetism that promises to do just that. For a taste of what Beat Saber has in store, check out the short teaser trailer below.

Beat Saber is a unique VR rhythm game that involves slashing ‘beats’ with virtual lightsabers. Beat Saber is like Rock Band meets Star Wars, with the air-chopping gameplay of Fruit Ninja. Each beat indicates the direction you need to swing to correctly slice the beat block. They are also color coded to indicate which hand (saber) you need to use. The musical score is tailored to fit each hand-made level as well.

“Our goal is to make players almost dance, while cutting all the cubes and avoiding obstacles,” said the developers at Hyperbolic Magnetism. “Each cut is strongly supported by great sound and visual effects to emphasize the rhythm.”

Rhythm games are uncommon on VR platforms, and the developers hope to fill the void with Beat Saber. Beat Saber is being developed for all of the main VR platforms, which include HTC Vive, Oculus, and PlayStation VR. Keep an eye out for Beat Saver in 2018 and sign up to the game’s mailing list for updates.
