Niantic is hosting yet another holiday event in Pokémon GO, and there are a lot of exclusive goodies up for grabs this year. The holiday event begins today, December 21st, and continues on through January 4th.
During this time, Pokémon GO players can expect encounters with a variety of new Pokémon from the Hoenn region in addition to discounts and giveaways.
The theme this year appears to center around Water and Ice type Pokémon such as Snorunt, Sharpedo, Luvdisc, Kyogre, and Milotic, among others.
Santa Hat Pikachu is also making a return this year, and will be available for capture throughout the course of the holiday event (which is good news if you missed him last year).
There may be another special Pokémon up for grabs in the form of Delibird, as rumors have been circulating that the Gen 2 Pokémon will finally make an official appearance.
While Gen 2 Pokémon were rolled out last year, Delibird was strangely excluded from the holiday celebrations, so we’re eager to see if we can spot him this year!
In terms of holiday specials, from December 22nd at 1 p.m. (PST) until December 25th at 1 p.m. (PST) players will receive an Egg Incubator from the first PokéStop they visit per day.
There will also be discounts on Super Incubators, Lure Modules, and a new item known as “Star Pieces.” The way Star Pieces function is they increase the amount of Stardust you collect when catching Pokémon for 30 minutes.
Then, from December 25th at 1 p.m. (PST) until January 4th, other discounts will be available in the Shop. There’s no word on specifics, so players should check back frequently during the Pokémon GO holiday event to take advantage of all the exclusive deals and discounts available.
