Guacamelee 2 Preview - The Luchador's Glorious Return

Find out what you can expect in the highly anticipated Guacamelee sequel, Guacamelee 2.

It was recently announced that Guacamelee 2 will release sometime next year as a PlayStation exclusive. While the original Guacamelee launched for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in April of 2013, it did eventually see a PC release later that year in August.

Considering Guacamelee’s continued popularity on Steam, it’s not impossible for Guacamelee 2 to eventually find its way over to the PC. However, according to DrinkBox co-founder Graham Smith:

“We’re currently completely focused on the PS4/PS4 Pro versions of Guacamelee 2, and aren’t announcing any other platforms at this time.”

For Guacamelee fans eager to get their hands on the PlayStation 4 Pro version of Guacamelee 2, it’s worth noting that the game will support HDR and 4K resolution.

This is particularly exciting considering how Guacamelee 2 follows in its predecessor’s footsteps in terms of bright and colorful imagery. In terms of story, Guacamelee 2 takes place seven years after the original title.

Protagonist Juan Aguacate returns, and is tasked with fighting his way through another uniquely designed Metroidvania-style world. Furthermore, he’ll have to take on an extremely dangerous new enemy that threatens “the very fabric of space and time!”

Those familiar with the original will find that the game’s core mechanics will remain largely unchanged in Guacamelee 2. However, certain mechanics have been amplified including Juan’s ability to traverse between the spirit world and the real world.

New moves have also been added into the game including a fun (and extremely useful) grappling hook called “Eagle Boost.” Overall, fans of the original will find a lot to love within Guacamelee 2. The game is projected to release sometime next year for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.

Stay tuned, as we’ll be posting updated information about Guacamelee 2 here at Indie Obscura as it’s released, and be sure to check out our exclusive Guacamelee 2 interview at PSX 2017!
