Niantic is launching a new Global Catch Challenge event in Pokémon GO. The event begins today, November 20th, and will last until November 26th. During the event, players are encouraged to venture beyond their local stomping grounds in order to capture a wider variety of Pokémon.
Prizes will be awarded based on how many Pokémon are caught collectively by Pokémon GO players, with the first set of rewards given out after players hit 500 million Pokémon caught. Even better, after each tier’s requirements are met, additional Pokémon will begin popping up (making the following tiers easier to reach).
The final tier rests at 3 billion Pokémon caught. Should Pokémon GO players reach this tier, the Pokémon Farfetch’d will be made available worldwide for a 48-hour timespan, and Kangaskhan will be made available in the East Asia region.
To make things easier, we’ve broken down each Global Catch Challenge tier below:
- Bronze Tier (500 Million Pokémon): Double XP, 6-hour timer on Incense, more Pokémon appearing globally.
- Silver Tier (1.5 Billion Pokémon): Double XP, 6-hour timer on Incense, double Stardust, more Pokémon appearing globally.
- Gold Tier (3 Billion Pokémon): Double XP, 6-hour timer on Incense, Farfetch’d unlocked globally, Kangaskhan unlocked in East Asia.
Lastly, it's been noted that other elusive Pokémon will be made available aside from Farfetch’d and Kangaskhan (like Mr. Mime and Heracross) based on region. Overall, the Global Catch Challenge event marks one of the best times to work on your Pokédex.
