Many gamers feel that Jonathan Blow’s colorful 3D puzzle game The Witness would be a lovely addition to the Nintendo Switch. To the chagrin of many fans, Blow stated back in June that “We are not working on such a port at this time,” when asked about the potential for a Switch release for The Witness.
The Witness is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android, making it yet another game that has launched for nearly every platform under the sun except the Switch (and Linux), so hopefully that will change at some point in the future.
Ori and the Blind Forest
Ori and the Blind Forest is undoubtedly one of the best platformers available on the Xbox One. Its Metroidvania-inspired gameplay and beautiful painted art style stole gamer’s hearts, many of whom would love to play (or replay) Ori on the Nintendo Switch. However, since Ori and the Blind Forest is published by Microsoft Studios, it’s unlikely we’ll see the game ever come to any other non-Microsoft gaming platform.
The nature of exclusivity in the gaming world is rather unfortunate, as it puts gamers in an odd predicament of either feeling obligated to buy a console just to play a game, or to simply miss out certain game experiences all together. Hopefully the gaming industry can reach a point where games are more broadly accessible, but for now, we’ll just have to be satisfied with what we get.
We know there’s tons of other great indie games out there that deserve to be ported to the Nintendo Switch, so feel free to mention some of your favorites in the comments below.
