10 Brutally Difficult Indies to Play if You Love Cuphead - Page 5

These games won’t go easy on you, that’s for sure.

N++

Don’t let N++’s minimalist design fool you, this title from Metanet Software is deceptively difficult. The secret behind the difficulty element in N++ centers around the game’s momentum-based setup. You have to move with care and precision.

One wrong move, one second of hesitation, and you die. As such, it pays to never underestimate a level in N++. Granted, N++ isn’t for everyone. The game’s aesthetic and unique movement style take some getting used to.

However, it’s hard to not find yourself addicted to the game after you’ve finally managed to make some progress in it. In that way, it’s a lot like Cuphead. The controls take some getting used to, but before you know it, you’ve made it farther than you ever expected.

Enter the Gungeon

Last, but certainly not least, we come to Enter the Gungeon by Dodge Roll. The game is extremely fun and addicting, but make no mistake, it’s also hard as hell. Like any dungeon crawler, your experience can be defined by the kind of loot you stumble across.

However, Enter the Gungeon ups the difficulty by making it incredibly easy to die no matter what equipment you’re rocking. There are rumors of a third floor in Enter the Gungeon. Have we reached that floor yet? Nope.

We’ve been playing the game for well over a year and have yet to ever touch the coveted third floor. If you like the sheer amount of times you die in Cuphead, Enter the Gungeon is perfect for you. Because trust us, you’re going to die. A lot.
