If you grew up in the 90s, there’s a good chance you probably owned a see-through game controller or some other transparent hardware. PlayStation 4 players can look forward to reliving the era of translucent tech with a new line of DualShock 4 controllers arriving later this month.
Sony has recently announced their plans to release a trio of translucent DualShock 4 wireless controllers for the PS4 sometime in September. These limited edition “Crystal” controllers are described as “new takes on the classic style,” with a see-through top panel that reveals the innards of the controller. The translucent controllers will come in three different colors: Crystal, Blue Crystal, and Red Crystal.
Sony had previously released a similar clear Crystal DualShock 4 controller back in 2015. The difference with these new controllers is that they come in multiple colors and feature an upgraded touchpad revealing the inner light bar.
The new translucent DualShock 4 controllers are retailer exclusives for the U.S. and Canada only, meaning each color is available from a specific retailer. The Crystal variant will be available at GameStop (U.S.) and EB Games (Canada), the Blue Crystal at Walmart, and the Red Crystal at Best Buy.
Although these Crystal controllers initially launch in North America, PlayStation 4 fans in Europe and Japan won’t have to wait long to get their hands on these controllers. The Crystal DualShock 4 controller range will make its way to Europe in October and Japan in November, along with the Steel Black and Midnight Blue controller variants.
Pre-orders for the Crystal DualShock 4 controllers are available on the PlayStation website. There’s no set release date for the controllers just yet, but we do know that they will be available sometime this month. Leave us a comment and lett us know which controller color is your favorite.
