PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Expands Partnership with Microsoft

PUBG developer Bluehole Studio Inc and Microsoft recently announced the expanded partnership at Gamescom 2017.

At Gamescom 2017, Microsoft touched on the expanded partnership with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Bluehole Studio Inc. In the past, we covered the upcoming release of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on the Xbox One (sometime later this year).

Now, Microsoft has essentially confirmed that PUBG will launch as an Xbox One exclusive. Although, it may not be a permanent Xbox exclusive despite the deal between the two companies expediting the PUBG port over to Xbox One and giving it premier console exclusivity.

In the future, it’s still possible for PUBG to make its way over to the PlayStation 4, however there are no guarantees. Especially considering Bluehole’s strengthened partnership with Microsoft. In an interview with Xbox Wire, Bluehole VP and PUBG executive producer Chang Han Kim explained the situation further.

“Working with Microsoft allows the team to accelerate console development, while maintaining quality across all platforms. As well as giving us access to vast sales, marketing, and publishing resources that will help us reach new fans to welcome to the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds universe.”

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been gaining traction ever since it released through Steam Early Access back in March. As of this writing, it has passed 8 million copies sold, and is currently one of the most popular games on Twitch. We look forward to checking out PUBG on the Xbox One later this year, and are eager to see what other surprises the PUBG team has in store!
