Pokémon GO Celebrates 1-Year Anniversary With Exclusive Event

You can capture a special version of Pikachu wearing Ash’s hat during the Pokémon GO birthday event.

Pokémon GO is celebrating its 1-year anniversary with a special event where players can capture a form of Pikachu wearing Ash’s hat. The Pokémon GO birthday event is set to run from today at 1 p.m. PST and 3 p.m. EST until July 24th.

In the Pokémon GO shop, an exclusive Anniversary Box item is available for purchase while the event is active. As part of the gift set, trainers will receive Max Revives, Ultra Balls, Incubators, and a Raid Pass used to gain access into Pokémon GO’s new raid battles.

If spending Coins on an Anniversary Box doesn’t interest you, there’s still the special version of Pikachu that can be caught during the event. This form of Pikachu can be found wearing Ash Ketchum’s trademark ballcap, and as you can imagine, it’s a highly coveted Pokémon to find.

This time last year, Pokémon GO debuted as one of the hottest mobile games in the world. The game is still going strong, and is coming up on almost one billion downloads worldwide.

Later this month, Niantic plans to host an outdoor event, the Pokémon GO Fest. While tickets for the July 21st event are currently sold out, trainers will still want to keep an eye on Grant Park in Chicago where the event will officially kick off.

You never know, you may just find a rare Pokémon, or a juicy raid battle to tackle!
