Last night, Nintendo officially unveiled their newest console… the Nintendo Switch. In addition to answering several important questions including release date, price, and confirmed games, the console’s specs were also revealed.
This is an important stat for many prospective buyers, as it gives you a general overview of how the machine will perform in comparison to other consoles on the market. Not to mention the console’s predecessor, the Wii U.
So, what are the specs for the Nintendo Switch? Let’s dive right in!
Nintendo Switch Specs
The Nintendo Switch handheld will utilise a 6.2-inch 1280x720 resolution multi-touch screen. After this morning’s tests of the device, it’s reported that the handheld is a definitive upgrade from the somewhat disappointing Wii U handheld.
Inside the handheld device, the Nintendo Switch will feature 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded through the use of a microSDXC card. The system will indeed use cartridges dubbed “game cards” which can be from the top of the handheld device.
The Switch will output audio through two speakers found at the bottom of the handheld device and will also include a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top. Battery life is variable between 2.5 and 6 hours. Although, Nintendo was able to provide a rough median estimate, stating that users should be able to get roughly three hours of continuous play of the Nintendo Switch launch title, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
To recharge your handheld device, the Nintendo Switch has a USB-C port at the bottom of the unit. It has yet to be revealed how long it will take to obtain a full charge. However, it should be noted that because it features a USB-C port, which is universal, charging your device won’t be a particularly difficult process.
Additionally, you can always carry around a portable charger for those times when you’re unable to get to an outlet. Confirmed back in October, the Nintendo Switch will house the Nvidia Tegra X1 processor.
In terms of performance, something of note is that the Nintendo Switch functions better when the device is docked, playing at 1080p in TV Mode as opposed to the handheld’s 720p.
Overall, the Nintendo Switch appears to be more efficiency-focused above everything else. The Nintendo Switch releases to store shelves on March 3rd, 2017 at the price of $299.99.
