Great Indie Tracks For Long Road Trips

These are some of the best indie songs to listen to in the car.

Driving can be a tiring task; just ask anyone who has been on the road for more than four hours at a time and they’ll tell you, it’s not always exciting. To remedy this, many drivers will stop in to a local restaurant and grab a bite to eat, or will pull over simply to get out and stretch their muscles.

However, one of the biggest and most important things we have to keep us occupied when we’re on the road is music. Music can transform a driving experience that feels like a burden into something magical. Don’t believe us? Check out the following indie tracks that are great for long road trips and try a few out the next time you hit the road!

Crypt of the Necrodancer - “Crypteque

Crypt of the Necrodancer is an incredible game developed by Brace Yourself Games and published by Klei Entertainment. This awesome dungeon crawler mixes things up with its unique beat mechanic, which is spurred by its toe-tapping soundtrack composed by Danny Baranowsky. Each track gets us pumped up and ready for the next level!

Payday 2 - “Time Window”

Payday 2 is a popular heist game developed by Overkill Software (who’ve since been purchased by Starbreeze Studios). This game’s soundtrack isn’t always about pumping you up… yet there are a few standout tracks on Payday 2’s soundtrack that really get our heads bobbing. Time Window is one of those songs; there’s just something so perfect about being on a lonely highway at night with this track on in the background.

Hotline Miami 2 - “Acid Spit”

We love the Hotline Miami series here at Indie Obscura, not just for its fun gameplay and beautiful art, but for its soundtrack as well. Hotline Miami 2 boasts songs with some seriously quirky titles, and it was certainly a hard choice as to which one we feel best fits a long drive. However, Acid Spit is a heart pumping track that swiftly comes in and reinvigorates your body after sitting in a chair for five hours straight.

Party Hard - “In The Lights”

We’re not going to lie, we love the entire Party Hard soundtrack from beginning to end. The game’s music has a signature 80s sound to it, and fits Party Hard’s gameplay objective of murdering partygoers. This track in particular is great for when you’re stuck in traffic as it’s both entertaining, and oddly relaxing at the same time.

The Binding of Isaac - “Satan’s Theme”

Speaking of traffic, when you’re feeling a little big agitated sometimes you don’t want to calm down. We can understand that feeling, and if you want a song that compliments your curses look no further than The Binding of Isaac’s "Satan’s Theme". Dark, grim, yet fast and powerful at the same time, this track is the perfect summary of how we all feel behind terrible drivers.

Shovel Knight - “In The Halls of the Usurper”

Shovel Knight is an addictive indie game developed by Yacht Club Games. We really enjoy the game’s retro chiptunes soundtrack, and some of the songs in the game can be quite fun. Take the song “In The Halls of the Usurper” for example. The song makes you feel like you’re about to embark on a grand adventure, even when you’re behind the wheel of your car.
