1. Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is easily one of the most terrifying games you’ll ever play. The terrors in your head far outweigh the sinister creatures that stalk you throughout the game, and the lack of information serves only to amplify the insanity. You play as Daniel, a man who suffers from a bad case of amnesia while roaming through a seriously creepy medieval castle. You’ll have to unravel the mystery of why you’re here, as you discover notes you left for yourself that slowly piece together the horrific truth of experiments that took place and your own unfortunate role in them.
Like Outlast, you’re unable to fight back against the things lurking in Brennenburg Castle. Instead, you must walk a fine line between going insane and the risk of brutal slaughter. Because Daniel has a fear of the dark, prolonged exposure to it makes him lose his marbles even faster. To mediate this situation, you’ll either need to stay in the light and risk exposing yourself to the things intent on killing you, or opt for hiding in the shadows as Daniel’s mind falls apart. If you’re really looking for a horrific experience, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is definitely the game for you.
