2016 Steam Summer Sale A Huge Success

This year’s Steam Summer Sale netted far more than last year’s.

The 2016 Steam Summer Sale is over, and new reports reveal it was an even bigger success than last year’s. According to a tweet from Steam Spy, this year’s summer sale racked up more than $230 million in profit compared to last year’s $160 million. While these numbers are early estimates, calculations indicate that over 37 million games were sold during the Steam Summer Sale, including many of this year’s hottest titles.

Steam Spy’s charts show that one of the best-selling Steam games this summer was Limbo, selling more than 1.1 million copies over the course of the Summer Sale. What’s more, Limbo wasn’t among the hundreds of titles discounted during the sale, though Limbo’s success is likely due to the game’s follow-up, Inside, which released in late June. In addition, a top 10 list was published that reveals the games with the most copies sold during the sale:

  • 1. Limbo - 1,128,836
  • 2. Payday 2 - 526, 380
  • 3. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - 485,694
  • 4. Age of Empires II: HD Edition - 373,651
  • 5. Garry’s Mod - 349,877
  • 6. Dead by Daylight - 286,966
  • 7. Left 4 Dead 2 - 282,580
  • 8. DOOM - 260,172
  • 9. Rocket League - 256,797
  • 10. Grand Theft Auto V - 227,111
