Sea of Thieves will fine you for stupid deaths

Future update to implement death tax.

Taking a trip to Davy Jones' Locker is going to get more costly in a future update to Sea of Thieves. In the latest release notes for the salty sandbox smash, Rare has revealed that dying will lose you some gold.

"This new feature has the Captain of the Ferry of the Damned deduct a small gold fee when you die," the developer explains. "Rates are dependant on the cause of death, so the more avoidable the death, the less patience the Captain will have when we enable this feature!"

Thankfully, PVP deaths will be exempt from this tax, as that would be an open invitation for griefers and also make the game's shared maps even more ruthless than they currently are. "We understand the negative impact this would have on player experience", added Rare, following concern from fans.

In other words, whenever this update goes live, you'll only be charged for dying if you died because of your own stupidity. You can minimise the chances of this happening by checking out our Sea of Thieves starter guide and our bumper Sea of Thieves review.
