Fortnite's Blitz mode is now live

Fast and furious.

Epic has added a new limited time game mode to the world-conquering Fortnite Battle Royale, and it’s ideal for those who love the game’s mixture of foraging, building and shooting, but wish it could all be over a bit faster.

A variation on the regular squad play, Blitz offers numerous tweaks all designed to get the action moving more quickly. For one thing, the safe zone on the map is already there at the start, the timer is set for just two minutes and it contracts every 30 seconds, herding players closer together at an accelerated rate.

Balancing out the hurried pace is a greater generosity - chests and loot appear more often, supply drops are more frequent and you’ll get double resources from them. Rare and epic gear is also easier to find, so matches escalate rapidly. It's basically Battle Royale on fast forward and at full volume. The mode isn't a permanent fixture yet, so don't wait if you want to give it a try. If it proves popular, expect to see it stick around.

Epic reckons that Blitz matches should take no longer than 15 minutes. It’s notable that the mode has been added now the game is available on mobile as well as console, meaning you can probably fit in a quick game on a short bus ride or a longer-than-usual toilet visit.
