Lords of the Fallen gameplay trailer reveals a monstrous parade of enemies

They'll be unleashed this October.

The first gameplay trailer for Lords of the Fallen, sequel and reboot for the 2014 soulslike action RPG, is packing plenty of unfriendly faces alongside a new release date.

The trailer confirms that the dark fantasy title will release on Friday, October 13th, 2023. It’s set to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Besides an Unreal Engine 5 showcase posted last month, it’s the first proper look at the game we’ve had since its revamped unveiling during Gamescom 2022’s Opening Night Live. Teasing a story about a sinister plot to revive the oppressive god Amyr, the trailer dives into both the story and combat players can look forward to. Check out the new footage below:

And quite the showcase of combat it is. Featuring a similar visual style to Dark Souls 3, Lords of the Fallen also looks more than set to match the Souls series’ plethora of menacing monsters. Sinister soldiers, towering demons, and Bloodborne-esque tentacled creatures all get their chance to shine, accompanied by Iron Maiden’s Fear of the Dark.

Thanks to the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, the world is shaping up impressively too. The setting for the game sees the player capable of seamlessly shifting between the realms of the living and dead, exploring and accessing two twinned lands of a far grander scale than that of the original title. This year’s Lords of the Fallen will also allow full character creation, so players can design their own Dark Crusader to face the many fearsome foes ahead.

The game is available to pre-order from today in Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions. The latter two options include an in-game bonus of the “Dark Crusader Starting Class” which packs in an armor set alongside some extra weapons and items.

Lords of the Fallen launches October 13 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
