The third trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been released, and it confirms the return of series villain Ganondorf.
Way back in 2019, the game’s first trailer teased us with footage of an emaciated, long-haired body. And now, with what may be Tears of the Kingdom's final trailer ahead of launch, we know for sure that Ganondorf is back. And Link's eternal nemesis is looking meaner than ever.
The third trailer for the Breath of the Wild sequel offers more story than we’ve seen for the game yet, including plenty of footage of allies like Urbosa, and Zelda as she appears to be held captive by Ganon’s forces within Hyrule castle. Check it out below:
The trailer was introduced by series producer Eiji Aonuma, who prefaced the latest footage with his excitement for players to discover not just the world, but also how they’ll be able to navigate around it. The trailer certainly teased us with plenty of fresh actions on that front. In brief snippets, Link can be seen jumping into floating bubbles, leaping in low-gravity between platforms, shooting up into the air on the side of a small rocket, and even making use of a wingsuit for certain periods.
We also get to see Link at in command of some kind of war machine as he pilots it toward a mobile bokoblin base. This contraption has almost certainly been created via Link’s new fusing mechanic, which was unveiled by Nintendo last month. With the new powers granted by his mysterious arm, our hero can join different items together, both to modify and improve his equipment and to craft vehicles.
Perhaps even more exciting is what those around Link seem to be up to. Brief glimpses of larger battles show Link fighting alongside villagers and Prince Sidon during gameplay. He’s also seen carting a group of people along behind his horse, though let’s hope that doesn’t mean we’ll be taking part in too many escort missions when the game releases next month.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases May 12th on Nintendo Switch.
