Resident Evil Village VR trailer shows off new weapons and interactivity

Prepare to punch a lycan.

A week ahead of the PS VR2 release date, a new trailer for the Resident Evil Village VR update has arrived.

Running in equal parts terror and excitement from Lady D is just the start of what players can look forward to when diving headfirst into Ethan Winters story once again.

The new trailer shows off plenty of monster-shooting gameplay. Dual wielding is possible, and you can even punch a lycan in the face, if you’re so inclined. There are also new weapons and weapon attachments on offer, including throwing knives to take down those pesky vampire bats atop castle Dimitrescu.

We also get a look at the other immersive elements added to the virtual reality version. It looks like VR ethan can check the game’s map on the fly by physically opening it up in front of him, and can hold out a torch to light up areas ahead. The trailer closes with a tease of a fully interactable piano, too. We look forward to VR enthusiasts performing full performances on it soon.

Plenty of puzzles require physical interaction too – we get a look at keys being slotted into place, levers pulled, and briefcases opened. Even healing gets more immersive, letting you physically upend a bottle of magical healing fluid to top up that healthbar.

Resident Evil Village VR Mode launches as a free update on February 22 alongside the PS VR2 headset. A demo will also be available on the same day.

With the next-gen VR headset soon to arrive, Sony has also released an extensive video breakdown of the headset.

In the video, mechanical designer Takamasa Araki takes the PS VR2 headset apart to show how each aspect of the expensive device was created. It covers details including how to headset keeps your face cool, tracks your eyes, and locates the Sense controllers as you’re playing.
