One Piece Odyssey

  • Release date: January 12
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox

2023 will leap into action early courtesy of Monkey D. Luffy and his friends. Released to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary, One Piece Odyssey sees the Straw Hat Crew caught in an unexpected storm that leaves them stranded separately on a mysterious island. Exploring independently, the crew must reunite and figure out the many secrets of their new locale. Odyssey may be a JRPG, but it isn’t afraid to grab turn-based standards and give them a mighty shake. Randomized Dramatic Scenes throw twists into the middle of fights, forcing you to adapt your approach for all party members.

Fire Emblem Engage

  • Release date: January 20
  • Platforms: Switch

Nintendo’s turn-based RPG strategy game returns for a new outing that celebrates the series’ history. By equipping rings, your units can fuse with ancient heroes like Marth and Lyn to gain their strength and swing fights in your favor. Yes, the main character may have the coloring of a toothpaste tube or Pepsi can, but don’t let the new look fool you. Fire Emblem Engage is bringing over many lessons from the success of Three Houses, including an expanded hub area called Somniel.

Forspoken

  • Release date: January 24
  • Platforms: PC, PS5

Transported from New York to a fantasy world of magic, monsters, and machinations, Frey Holland needs to learn quickly if she's to keep herself alive. Fortunately, Forspoken's protagonist has the aid of a talking bracelet called Cuff to help her master intense combat and parkour magics. Built for next-gen, Forspoken promises an expansive world you can zip across in style as you aim to free the land’s inhabitants from the rule of the corrupt Tanta matriarchs.

Dead Space Remake

  • Release date: January 27
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Like the terrifying necromorphs which made it famous, Dead Space is ready to rise from the grave once again. A full remake of 2008’s limb-severing horror classic, Dead Space sees engineer Isaac Clarke attempting to survive aboard a spaceship jammed full of hungry terrors. There are a few survivors. But keep your wits (and a plasma cutter) about you handy, and you might just be able to work with them to guide Clarke free of the interstellar coffin he’s caught in. This version of the original game sees Clarke fully voiced and looking shinier than ever, but don't expect that to aid him against the many-limbed creatures stalking the ship's hallways. Good luck, and remember to aim for the legs.
