To get the MP5 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – or Lachman Sub, as it’s in-game name denotes – involves three main steps:

• Unlock the Lachmann-762 Battle Rifle
• Reach Level 13 with the Lachmann-762 to unlock the Lachmann-556 Assault Rifle
• Reach Level 12 with the Lachmann-556 to unlock the Lachmann Sub

Yes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s weapon unlock systems are confusing – you can read the full list of weapon unlock requirements here. The good news is that the Lachmann-762 unlocks automatically at Level 16. As soon as you reach that, equip it to begin earning XP. 

Once you reach level 13 on the Lachmann–762, you’ll unlock the receiver attachment along with the Lachmann-556 Assault Rifle. You’ll then want to swap to equipping that weapon so you earn weapon XP with it. Use that gun enough to reach level 12, you’ll unlock the receiver for that gun, finally unlocking the Lachmann Sub.

With all that weapon grinding complete, you can then get the MP5 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 by equipping the Lachmann Sub to one of your classes. Congratulations!

It’s worth noting that even if you haven’t unlocked them yet, you can also earn weapon XP for the Lachmann-762 and Lachmann-556 if you pick them up off another player. It’s unlikely that you’ll gain enough this way to reach the levels required, but every bit helps.
