In Disney Dreamlight Valley fishing is a great way to collect cooking ingredients, make money, and complete your collection compendium. You’ll get a fishing rod early as one of the game’s Royal Tools, but using it is another matter. In this guide we’ll explain how to fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley so you can bring in big hauls no matter what water you’re heading to.
How to fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Before you can fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll need to have obtained the fishing rod from Goofy. Follow our Royal Tools guide here if you’ve yet to obtain it. Once you have the fishing rod, equip it from your tool selection wheel and head to a body of water in the plaza and surrounding areas. The large pond in Peaceful Meadow is a great place to start.

To fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley, look for bubbling circles in the water, as shown above. Face toward one and with the fishing rod equipped, hold the interact button (right click on PC, X on Xbox - read the full controls here). You’ll see a small circle move away from you along the floor. Wait for it to reach the bubbling circle in the water then release the button to cast your fishing rod.

Next comes patience. Wait until you receive a prompt on screen and press the interact button (left click on PC, A on Xbox). You’ll then see a circle close in around a thicker ring over the bubbles in the water. Wait until the circle is within the thicker ring and you’ll be prompted to press the same input again. Press it too early and you’ll lose the fish.

You’ll need to repeat this several times without mistakes as the circle appears close and closer to the central ring. Keep pulling it off and you’ll eventually catch a fish! Mess up and you’ll need to cast your line again to fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Don’t worry, the bubbling ring will remain in place but you will have lost some energy.
If you want to catch different varieties of fish, look for different colors of bubbles in the water. Gold and purple rings of bubbles are more likely to reward rarer fish. Be warned though – you’ll face a tougher challenge when trying to fish in them. You can also fish in the ponds without aiming for areas with bubbles. This will reward you with seaweed – don’t ask why it’s in a pond – or that area’s basic fish type.
