Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 gets new map and mode

Treyarch has officially released a new update for Black Ops 3.

Treyarch recently released an update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 which adds in a brand new map and game mode. The new map is Redwood Snow, and is essentially a snow-covered variant of the game’s existing Redwood map.

In the update’s accompanying patch notes, Treyarch describes Redwood Snow as: “Enter the snowcapped landscape of Redwood Snow to experience something colder from the map you know and love.”

Aside from the snowy version of Redwood, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is also getting a new game mode – Infected.

The Infected game mode first appeared back in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and eventually made its way into other entries in the series such as Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, and Infinite Warfare. Now, Black Ops 3 players will have access to the Infected mode.

Addressing how the Infected mode will function in Black Ops 3, Treyarch stated:

“At the start of a match, one player is randomly chosen as the first infected whose goal is to infect the other players. Once downed, players respawn as infected, slowly increasing the size of the horde. Infect all players, or survive until time runs out to win.”

The update also introduces new themes for Black Ops 3’s various specialists among other general fixes. For a full look at what the update includes, be sure to review the full patch notes via Charlie Intel.

Overall, it’s interesting to see Black Ops 3 receive an update seemingly out of nowhere. With Treyarch confirmed as this year’s Call of Duty developer, rumors have begun circulating that the upcoming title will wind up being Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

While updates to games like Black Ops 3 lend credence to this theory, fans will nevertheless have to wait until an official reveal trailer drops to confirm what this year’s Call of Duty title will be.
