Sniper Elite 5 Kill Challenge: Matthaus Ehrlich rat bomb

The Sniper Elite 5 Kill Challenge in Mission 4: War Factory tasks you to take out Matthaus Ehrlich, with a bonus rewarded if you use a Rat Bomb. This unique weapon isn’t explained particularly well during the level, so in this guide we’ll walk you through how to use the Rat Bomb in Sniper Elite 5 to kill Matthaus Ehrlich and secure your extra rewards.

Sniper Elite 5: How to use the Rat Bomb

The Rat Bomb is a unique weapon granted for Mission 4: War Factory. Unlike most other items, you can’t just use it whenever you like. To use the Rat Bomb in Sniper Elite 5, you need to be in the specific location for the Kill Challenge with Matthaus Ehrlich.

You’ll be able to get a Rat Bomb right at the start of the mission from the standard spawn point. Before you open the door to the outside, a French resistance fighter will be stood close by, with a Rat Bomb resting on the cabinet beside them.

If you start Mission 4: War Factory from a different location, you can still get a Rat Bomb from the same room as the Rifle Workbench location. Pick it up there before you head further south.

Sniper Elite 5 Mission 4 Kill Challenge: How to kill Matthaus Ehrlich with the Rat Bomb

To kill Matthaus Ehrlich in Sniper Elite 5, you need to head down to his location in the southwest of the Mission 4: War Factory map. He’s in the small warehouse building highlighted by the Kill List objective, as shown on the map above.

Approach from the north (watching out for the patrolling car on the road nearby) and you’ll overhear Ehrlich having a discussion with a superior officer about his contacts in the Resistance. 

While he’s distracted, sneak into the warehouse and look around the floor for small places with the Plant Rat Bomb prompt. There are several close to the base of the shelves inside, and it doesn’t matter which one you use. Plant a Rat Bomb, then head back outside the way you came.

With the Rat Bomb planted, all you need to do is wait out of sight for Matthaus Ehrlich to finish his conversation and return to the building. He’ll make his way around the room, checking each location until he spots the Rat Bomb. Indulging in his rat-shooting habit, he’ll pop a shot at it, detonating the bomb and blowing him up.
