Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie poster revealed ahead of The Game Awards premieres

Sonic is crashing The Game Awards for some overdue spotlight time.

Sonic’s 30th anniversary blowout is raging all the way to The Game Awards. The Blue Blur will be the subject of multiple segments during this week’s show, but before that we got a little nugget of what’s to come. The Game Awards are tomorrow as of this writing, but today the first full poster for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has been revealed. Check it out:

As you can see, this poster really sets the stage for what one can expect from Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (due April 8, 2022). The image includes Sonic’s longtime homie Tails, to be voiced (also announced today) by Colleen O’Shaughnessey. Notably, Tails is piloting the Tornado plane, with Sonic hanging out on top. The pair are the main draw, but we also see Robotnik and some Buzz Bombers, all of which looking much more like their videogame counterparts compared to the previous film.

Knuckles, to be voiced by Idris Elba, is not included on this initial poster, likely due to the image’s clear homage to the original Sonic 2 videogame.

Alongside the poster, Geoff Keighley announced The Game Awards will be hosting the premiere of the movie’s first trailer, alongside appearances from Jim Carrey and Ben Scwartz, Robotnik and Sonic respectively. Keighly also included an oddly subdued mention that the next Sonic the Hedgehog videogame will make an appearance, the first time we’ll be hearing of this game since its initial teaser.

Sega has been celebrating Sonic’s 30th birthday all year, revealing all kinds of products and events presumably building up to tomorrow.
