Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to get Gyroids

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Gyroids are musical companions who'll add extra joy to your island.

Gyroids can spruce up your Animal Crossing soundtracks with extra notes or just add some ambient sounds to your island environments. In this guide we’ll explain how to get Gyroids in Animal Crossing: New Horizons so that you can remix the tunes of your island landscapes and rooms.

How to get Gyroids

There are two methods to get Gyroids in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but before you can engage in the second method, you need to obtain and grow one using the first. Here’s what you need to know to get Gyroids.

Take Kapp’n Boat Tours

The most consistent method to get Gyroids in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to head out on Kapp’n Boat Tours from your island’s harbor. While you’re on the island, look for an X spot on the floor, identical to how fossil locations appear on your own island. Dig these up and you’ll receive a Gyroid Fragment. You’ll also get another if you help track down Brewster for the first time.

This old scrap isn’t good for any tunes on its own, but if you cultivate it you can grow your own Gyroids. Take the Gyroid Fragment back to your island. Dig a hole using a shovel and bury the Gyroid Fragment in it. Make sure you water the buried Gyroid Fragment. If successfully watered, you should be able to see small puffs of smoke arise from the hole.

Return the next day and dig up the buried spot to get your first Animal Crossing: New Horizons Gyroid. You can only take Kapp’n boat tours once per day, but each trip is guaranteed to have a single buried Gyroid Fragment. Repeat the process above to get Gyroids consistently. Kapp’n Boat Tours cost 1,000 Nook Miles for each trip.

Dig them up on your island (wait for it to rain)

Once you have grown your first Gyroid on your own island, they’ll be able to spawn in the ground at random. Check for X spots on your own island each day and dig them up. While most will be fossils (or rare mushrooms), you can also find fully grown Gyroids buried on your island.

Gyroids have an increased chance to spawn on your island the day after it rains. If you’re suffering some bad weather, look at the silver lining: you’ll likely earn some extra musical friends tomorrow.

Those are the two methods to get Gyroids in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Keep up those Kapp’n tours and dig up any buried goods to find a nice supply of Gyroids with which to fill your home. Which Gyroids you receive is determined randomly. Make sure to try different combinations and to pair them with different tunes from your music players.
