Before you can cook food in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you need to have crafted a Stonework kitchen. To get the recipe for this, head to the Nook Stop in Residents Services and purchase the Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+ package. This will upgrade the DIY app on your phone to include recipes, and also adds the Stonework Kitchen recipe to your collection.

To craft the Stonework kitchen you need the following:

  • Stone x 30
  • Clay x 15
  • Iron Nugget x 10

Once you have those, visit a crafting bench to create your Stonework Kitchen. Interact with the Stonework kitchen and you’ll see all the cooking recipes you have currently acquired. So long as you have the ingredients to hand, you can cook up a meal immediately! Some dishes will only require basic ingredients like a Sea Bass and Weeds, but most will also require you to get crops like carrots, which will take a lot more work. Here's our full explanation of how to get crops in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

You can also gain recipes by catching or collecting the various items they require. The next time you go fishing, for example, you’ll probably get new recipes relating to some of the fish that you catch. Catching an Olive Flounder, for example, will unlock the Sautéed Olive Flounder recipe.

That’s all there is to know about how to cook in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Get yourself a Stonework Oven and get to baking!
