Animal Crossing: New Horizons Lantern Festival adds handheld lights

New seasonal items include a Handheld Lantern with adorable variations in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is celebrating its Lantern Festival, and as a special treat, players can now obtain handheld lanterns to carry around their island.

The Lantern Festival is celebrated between November 1 - 11, as an in-game version of Saint Martin’s Day (or Old Halloween) celebrations which typically see bonfires lit, feasts hosted, and children carrying lanterns in celebrating regions.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can get the Handheld Lantern item via the Seasonal Items section of the Nook Shopping app on their NookPhone or at a Nook Stop. The Handheld Lantern costs 1,100 Bells and will be delivered the day after you order it. There are six variations of the Handheld Lantern available, and players can swap between the designs by using Customization Kits.

If you move fast, you’ll also be able to grab the other current seasonal item: the Marigold decoration. This item is intended to celebrate Day of the Dead, letting players create their own shrines to remember and feel close to loved ones who have passed away. Those are available until tomorrow, November 3.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have a lot to look forward to in the week ahead, as the game’s last major update will arrive this Friday, adding new haircuts, Kapp’n cruises, extra functions on Harv’s island, and a whole lot more.

In addition, the game’s first paid DLC, Happy Home Paradise, will release on November 5. This sees players head out to a new archipelago where they’ll work to plan out houses for visiting villagers. Based on the villager’s description of their ideal vacation home, it’ll be up to the player to use extensive customization tools to arrange the internals and externals of each holiday home. You’ll even be able to adjust the weather to fit the mood they’re after. Doing a great job will reward the player with a unique resource to purchase rare items for their own home island.

To recap, the Animal Crossing New Horizons Handheld Lantern is available as a seasonal item until November 11.
