Learn how to buy and change costumes in Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water so you can exorcise spirits in style.

Ghosts may be the main subjects behind the lens in the Project Zero / Fatal Frame series, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress for the camera either. There are a wide selection of outfits in Project Zero: Maiden of Black, but to dress up in them you’ll first need to learn how to change costumes, something that isn’t immediately apparent when you first start playing.

To change costumes in Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water, you need to reach the menu shown at the end of one of the game’s episodes. After you clear a game section, you’ll be presented with a screen which shows the levels you’ve completed as well as your progress on the Ghost List and Archive.

At the bottom of this screen, you should see the option to press a button (Triangle on PlayStation) to open the Costumes menu. On the Costumes menu, you’ll then be able to purchase any available outfits by spending points you’ve earned while playing. You can change costumes for the three lead characters in the game: Yuri Kozukata, Miu Hinasaki, and Ren Hojo. Swap between them by hitting left and right.

Select the costume you want, then accept your choice again to pay the cost. Be warned, the points it costs to purchase outfits are the same ones you’ll spend on upgrades for your Camera and on items to take into each episode. However, you should earn more than enough points to pay the 10,000 cost of each Costume. Once you've bought them, you can change costumes by selecting them on this menu, then hitting the back button and accepting your choices.

In addition to changing costumes, you can also add certain accessories to your characters as well. Scroll down past the costumes and you’ll see any accessories that you’ve unlocked. Selecting these will add them on top of the costume you’ve chosen.

Many of the costumes are tied to specific versions of the game, such as the Digital Deluxe Edition which contains the Past Protagonists Costume set, so don’t worry if you’re not able to access them all.

That’s all there is to know about how to change costumes in Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water. It’s an entertaining feature that’s fun to play with when combined with the in-game photo mode. For more guides, head to our hub page for the game.
