To tame a wolf in Fortnite you need to get close enough while it isn’t hostile to you. There are a couple of ways to achieve this, and both are pretty simple.

The first method is to craft a Hunter’s Cloak.  This will stop all wildlife from being aggressive towards you, allowing you to easily approach and tame them. The full Fortnite crafting recipes list can be found here, but for the cloak you’ll just need the following:

  • 1 x Meat
  • 2 x Animal Bones

Both can be obtained by killing wolves, boars, and chickens. Equip the Hunter’s Cloak from your inventory, approach the beast, and hold the directed prompt to tame the wolf.

Wolves will try to walk around, so standing in front of them to stop them moving away while you’re trying to tame them.

The second method to tame a wolf in Fortnite is to use meat as a distraction. Kill some wildlife (wolves, boars, and chickens are all fair game) and collect the meat they drop.

Approach a wolf and equip your meat (save the crude jokes, please) before throwing it on the ground nearby using the fire putting. The wolf should be distracted, heading over to eat the tasty treat you brought.

Approach the wolf while it’s distracted and hold the shown button prompt to tame it.

Combining the two methods by using meat while wearing the Hunter’s Cloak is the most efficient way to tame wolves in Fortnite, but you’ll need to save two spaces in your inventory to do so.

You can only have one wolf companion tamed at a time, so pick your friend wisely until some cruel, rude person shoots them. A tamed wolf will attack anyone who shoots at you. Right now wolves are the only tameable creatures, so don't waste your efforts on boars. You can, however, grab chickens to catch a ride through the air.

That’s all we can teach you about how to tame a wolf in Fortnite, so you can get out there and practice! Do try not to get eaten in the process. Click here to view our full crafting recipes list, and here to see all the changes made to the map in Chapter 2, Season 6.
