Animal Crossing: New Horizons is expanding its custom design options

The spring update to New Horizons will add more pro design slots and new customization types, along with the Island Tour Creator.

A year on from release, another sizable Animal Crossing: New Horizons update is on the way soon, this time targeting the custom design features. In addition, players in the US will also be able to pick up a special Sanrio-themed pack to unlock items and villagers based on shows like Hello Kitty and Aggretsuko. The update will launch for free on Thursday, March 18, delivering a 1st Anniversary Cake item to celebrate the occasion. We’ve rounded up everything included

Included in the new Animal Crossing update is a long-requested feature for regular players. All players will gain 50 additional custom design slots for both Normal and Pro Custom designs, but that’s just the beginning.

Pick up the Custom Design Pro Editor+ for 2,000 Nook Miles and you’ll unlock a brand new Variety Good section for your custom designs, letting you tailor the looks of umbrellas, uchiwa fans, flags, and photo stands.

Purchase the Custom Designs Portal for 300 Nook Miles and you can access the Able Sisters portal directly from your phone! That’ll save a minute or two of dashing across the island.

Seasonal items

As Spring arrives, new items are being added to the Nook Shopping app, including whoopee cushions for April Fool’s Day. They’ll be available from March 26 - April 1. Prom-themed elegant clothing items will also be added to the Able Sisters and Nook Shopping from April 1 - 30, including prom dresses, prom flooring, and a prom stash. Time to get your groove on!

Island Tour Creator

From March 23, New Horizons players will get access to a new Island Tour Creator feature. Currently planned to last until the end of the year, this feature will allow players to use Animal Crossing: New Horizons screenshots to create a poster and trailer for their island, essentially advertising its best qualities to all your friends. Further details will be announced via the Animal Crossing Twitter account.

Sanrio items

From March 26, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players in the US will be able to purchase the Sanrio Collaboration Pack from target stores across the country. Costing $5.99, it includes amiibo cards you can use to invite Sanrio-theme animals to your island. You can exchange bells for a collection of Sanrio furniture such as a Hello Kitty rugs, tables, beds, and chairs.
