Maquette: Key puzzle solution - The Spiral

The Spiral chapter of Maquette contains a particularly fiendish key puzzle that can leave you stumped for hours if you don’t figure out its sneaky solution. In this guide, we’ll take you through how to solve the key puzzle in Maquette so that you can progress to the next stage of the game and story.

Maquette: Key puzzle solution - The Spiral

The key (har har) to solving the key puzzle in Maquette’s The Spiral chapter is understanding what’s missing. You’ve got access to three room copies in which to change the size of the key, but are missing the fourth room which will produce the size you need. To access this, you’ll need to create a ramp on the side of the room. 

In the room containing two keys, pick up the key from the right (medium size) room key and carry it to the left (smaller) room. Place it such that it’s resting on the side of the left wall (when facing the locked door), forming a ramp up to the edge.

Next, return to the previous, largest room to find a giant version of the key. It should be lying in such a way to create a ramp up to a hidden area on a higher level. If you can’t jump onto and walk up the key, realign it to be less severely angled in the other room.

Up top is where you’ll find the third, intermediate room size (look for the ring of candles) which is scaled between the largest and middle ones. In this room replica you’ll be able to grab a key of the correct size to open the locked door. If you’ve adjusted the key sizes prior to starting, you might need to rearrange them a bit, but only this hidden room will give you the key required to progress.
