How to upgrade Legendaries in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

If you're looking to upgrade your Legendaries rather than craft them, we can help.

World of Warcraft is a staple of the gaming world, and this year marked the release of its latest expansion, Shadowlands. This is the game's eighth expansion and came out in late October. Players are tasked with embarking into the Shadowlands, the place beyond the veil, in order to save Azeroth from mounting darkness. To take on WoW's latest challenge you'll need high rank Legendaries. Here's how to upgrade them.

Legendaries in World of Warcraft can be crafted right to the level you want them, but that can be a time consuming and arduous process. If you don't want to wait around to craft the Legendary of your dreams and you're okay with spending a little extra cash, you can craft your desired Legendary at a lower level and upgrade it later, since Legendary effects don't scale with item level.

To upgrade a Legendary you have already created, you will need to make sure you have all of the necessary materials. Remember that you can't upgrade Legendaries once they have reached Rank 4. Any upgrade requires a new base crafting item that is at the Rank you want to upgrade to and 100 Soul Ash per level you want to upgrade. For example, if you are upgrading from Rank 1 to Rank 3, you will need 200 Soul Ash. If you are planning to have a Rank 4 Legendary, either method will require 400 Soul Ash, so you can upgrade your Legendary or craft it directly to that Rank.

When deciding if you want to upgrade Legendaries, keep in mind that it does have a higher material cost than crafting a Legendary at the Rank you want. Each time you upgrade your Legendary's rank, you will need a new base crafting item.

Ultimately, it's your call on how you want to proceed with your Legendaries. There are pros and cons to both, so it's really a matter of preference and resources. For more World of Warcraft: Shadowlands features and guides, visit our game hub.
