If you already have the PS4 version installed, you’ll need to take a couple of extra steps to download the Destiny 2 PS5 update. Instead of finding the game on the main dashboard, you’ll want to head to the Game Library (found at the end of the Game dashboard). In here, find Destiny 2 and press Options, then select View Game.

You should now be on the Destiny 2 store page. Now, click the three little dots next to the play button to open a drop down menu. You should see either PS5 here or both PS4 and PS5 on the list. Choose PS5 | Full | Destiny 2. After selecting that, you should see the download option appear where the play button was, allowing you to start downloading the Destiny 2 PS5 update. Had trouble following any of that? The Verge senior editor Tom Warren put up a quick video that'll show you the steps:

Yes, it’s a bit of a faff, and yes, the Xbox Series X will do all of this nonsense for you automatically. But hey, now you know. And once you’ve downloaded the PS5 upgrade you can enjoy all the shiny new features like 4K support and Crucible matches which run at 120 fps (provided your TV/monitor supports it) to your heart’s content. Oh, and don’t worry if your friends are still on the PS4 because Destiny 2 supports cross-play between generations with full cross-play coming in 2021. Have fun out there, next-gen guardians!
