Spooky season is coming to Pokemon Go

Gengar, Galarian Yamask, and Sableye, oh my.

Get ready trainers, from October 23 at 6:00pm PDT to November 3 at 6:00pm, Pokemon Go will be getting a bit...Ghastly. That's right, it's time for Pokemon Go's 2020 Halloween event. The event will feature new pokemon, new avatar items, and two new events to participate in!

To start, in new Halloween-themed Special Research, A Spooky Message Unmasked, players will have the chance to encounter freshly-debuted Galarian Yamask. If you're looking for even more ghost action, completing certain Field Research tasks may get you an encounter with Spiritomb, maybe even a shiny one if you're lucky! The whole event is centered on getting your ghost on as ghost types will be appearing more in the wild, in raids, and in eggs!

Ghostly friends who are already in the game are going to be getting an upgrade as well! Both Sableye and Gengar are getting costumes. Dressed up Gengar will be available via raids, and Sableyes masquerading as Litwicks will be out in the wild and have the chance to hatch from eggs. Trainers will be able to get in on the costume fun as well with new items coming to the Style Shop, including a Pikachu Mask, Gengar Onesie, Sableye Mask, Sableye Goggles, Bannette Mask, and the new Spooky Pose! The shop will also start carrying the Creepy Crate, Boo Bundle and Pumpkin Pack boxes.

The main mini-events of the season are Catch Mastery: Ghost Day and the Halloween Cup. Ghost Day will be on Sunday, October 25 from 8:00am-10:00pm local time. During this timeframe, ghost pokemon will appear more frequently in the wild and event exclusive Time Research opportunities will be available. The Halloween Cup will start on Monday, October 26 at 1:00pm PDT and will wrap up on November 3 at 1:00pm PST. Only Bug, Dark, Poison, Ghost, and Fairy types under 1500 CP can participate in this Go Battle League event. Additionally, October 31st proper is Alolan Marowak Raid day, where from 1:00-5:00pm local time, Alolan Marowak will be appearing in raids more frequently.
