It’s been a bit of an odd run up to the launch of a new console generation given that, at the time of writing, we still don’t know the price or actual release date of either new device. Still, that hasn’t stopped Sony from wowing us with an impressive lineup of PlayStation 5 games we can look forward to playing. The big concern is when many of these PS5 games will actually release, as appealing titles like Horizon Forbidden West aren’t likely to arrive any time soon.
Still, there’s plenty to be excited about with the next generation, so we’ve put together a list of all the confirmed PS5 games that we’ve seen so far. We’ve not included already released titles offering free upgrades besides a few of the games-as-service titles, as otherwise this list would go on forever. If you’re only here for the exclusives, skip to the bottom of the page for the roundup of games you won’t be able to find on the Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Release date: On launch
The next title in Ubisoft’s open-world semi-historical romps takes as back to the Viking invasions of England. Playing as Viking settler Eivor, Valhalla will see you expand your settlement and take the fight to English towns and even castles as your people find a new live on England’s soil.
Astro’s Playroom
Release date: On launch
A free title that’ll come bundled with all PS5s, Astro’s Playroom is basically a chance for Sony to show off what their new console can do with a few simple games and tech demos. Despite being based on Astrobot VR, there’s no confirmed VR component just yet.
Atomic Heart
Release date: TBA
An unusual first-person shooter set in an alternate, high-tech future version of the Soviet Union. There’s a mix of supernatural and technological elements at play, with an underlying horror vibe that immediately brings BioShock to mind. Atomic Heart is listed for release on current gen and next, though there’s no release date yet.
Battlefield 6
Release date: 2021
Electronic Arts has already announced that a new Battlefield game will be coming to next-gen consoles in 2021. It’ll be aiming to make the most of the new generation’s power, but right now we don’t know anything about the setting.
Bugsnax
Release date: Holiday 2020
A new game from the makers of Octodad, Bugsnax has taken the internet by storm, thanks in large part to its incredibly catchy theme tune. Catch bugsnax, eat bugsnax, gain snacky powers, return the population to Snaxburg. What’s not to like?
Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War
Release date: Holiday 2020
A direct sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops, Cold War is due to release on November 13, 2020. Details beyond the setting are fairly slim right now, but we know the story will follow the Black Ops crew as they take on a Soviet agent known as Perseus. It’s confirmed for current gen and next gen, though the latter only has a Holiday 2020 release date as of now.
Chivalry 2
Release date: 2020
Sequel to 2012’s popular first-person medieval sword swinger, Chivalry 2 is currently in Alpha phase on PC. The game is planned to release this year, with cross-platform support on consoles. Chivalry 2 aims to let you relive famous historical battles, as well as those from your favorite medieval-themed TV shows and movies.
Chorus
Release date: 2021
Space-based shooter Chorus had one of the most stylish trailers of Xbox’s games showcase in May, but it’s also coming to PS5 as well. Piloting a sentient ship, protagonist Nara is on a journey of redemption as she soars (and shoots) through the Galaxy.
Cris Tales
Release date: November 17
Described as an “indie love letter to classic JRPGs with a new perspective,” Cris Tales allows you to view the past, present, and future at once, seeing how your decisions impact the world around you.
Cyberpunk 2077
Release date: November 19
One of the most anticipated releases of the year, CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting a port to next-gen consoles, as well as a full updated release down the line to properly take advantage of the tech. As a fixer in the corporate-owned Night City, it’s up to you to carve a path and a name for yourself in this RPG-shooter.
Deathloop
Release date: 2021
One of our most anticipated PS5 titles, Deathloop sees two rival assassins locked in a repeating loop of death. The lead protagonist is aiming to break the cycle by taking out several targets in the same night, but other players will be able to drop in as their opponent, working to kill them and keep the loop running. Deathloop was recently delayed to 2021, but we’re still extremely keen to give it a whirl.
Demon’s Souls
Release date: November 12
Oh you thought Dark Souls was tough? This PS5 exclusive remakes the classic FromSoftware title which started it all in 2009. Demon Souls is known for being ruthlessly challenging, but features some of the finest boss designs of the entire series. It’s been confirmed as a launch title, arriving with the console on November 12.
Destiny 2
Release date: Unknown, likely to be on launch
Bungie’s online sci-fi shooter will make the leap to next gen, though don’t expect any big changes in visuals beyond 4K and 60FPS support for the time being. It’ll be free for current-gen players, and you’ll be able to carry over your progress, so you don’t need to fret about all those hours spent grinding for exotics going to waste.
Destruction Allstars
Release date: November 12
An odd mix of destruction derby and third person action, Destruction Allstars is a PS5 exclusive that’s very evidently trying to mimic Fortnite’s visual aesthetic and wild outfit designs. It looks like players will be able to race and run around complex arenas as they fight to be the last contestant standing. It's a launch title, meaning it'll arrive November 12.
Dirt 5
Release date: October 2020 for current gen, likely on launch for next-gen
You can’t have a new generation of consoles without racing games to show off shiny new reflections and details. Dirt 5 will splatter mud all over those beautiful bonnets when it screeches through cities, villages, wilderness and more this year. Also features voiced roles for both Troy Baker and Nolan North.
Dustborn
Release date: 2021
Take a sci-fi road trip in this narrative-led adventure. Travelling across a broken futurescape of the USA, your group of oddballs and odd robots needs to deliver a package, and maybe discover some friends along the way.
Dying Light 2
Release date: TBA
Like zombies? A fan of parkour? Dying Light 2’s sprawling city of rival factions and flesh-munching beasts should be high on your list of anticipated games. It’s been in development for a long old while now, but Dying Light 2 is still coming. Hopefully.
Far Cry 6
Release date: February 18, 2021
The next Far Cry game has series fans excited over the prospect of learning Far Cry 3 villain’s backstory. This game will be set in the fictional tropical island of Yara during a guerilla revolt, and features Breaking Bad star Anton Castillo as the main villain.
FIFA 21
Release date: October 6 on current gen, likely to be a launch title for next-gen.
The world’s most popular sport was never going to miss out on the opening year for a new console generation, and FIFA 21’s next-gen version will include some nice visual improvements. Beyond that, we don’t know too much about how this latest title will change the (virtual) beautiful game.
Fortnite
Release date: November 12
You didn’t think escaping Fortnite would be that easy, did you? Epic Games' battle royale giant is confirmed as being available day one of the console's release.
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Release date: 2021
A new title from horror legend Shinji Mikami and studio Tango Dreamworks. As the name might suggest the game is set in Tokyo, though thanks to an invasion of supernatural beings, it’s a far less welcoming place than the real world version. Expect plenty of monsters based on Japanese folklore, which you’re able to combat using your own supernatural powers, naturally.
Godfall
Release date: November 12
Destiny but with swords might be an unfair description to slap on Gearbox and Counterplay Games’ upcoming title, but the hack-and-slash action combined with loot grabbing we’ve seen so far certainly hasn’t convinced us otherwise. Swapping between armor sets known as Valorplates helps you unlock new melee powers as you aim to kill a mad god sitting at the top of the realm. The name’s a bit of a clue, there. It’ll feature solo and co-op PvE play.
Gods and Monsters
Release date: TBA
Ubisoft’s cartoony take on Greek mythology was originally meant to release early this year, but has since been pushed back and will be releasing on next-gen consoles.
Goodbye Volcano High
Release date: 2021
After a game that’s almost certain to tug on your heartstrings? Goodbye Volcano High’s narrative adventure following a group of graduating students might be what you’re after. It’s got a very sweet cartoon visual style with humanoid animal and dragon-style characters.
Gotham Knights
Release date: 2021
Set in Arkham City after the death of Batman, Gotham Knights sees Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood working together to protect the city. The entire game can be played solo or in full co-op with a friend. Due to release some time in 2021, it'll be another split-gen title.
Gothic
Release date: TBA
A playable teaser proved popular enough to warrant a full remake of this cult classic title. THQ Nordic is behind the wheels promising a faithful recreation.
Gran Turismo 7
Release date: TBA
A new gen means a new Gran Turismo game, though there’s no word of a release date yet for what would normally be a launch day entry for Sony’s generational jump. It’s very much Gran Turismo from what’s been shown so far, which means series stalwarts will like the visual boost, while arcadey racer fans will want to look elsewhere.
Grand Theft Auto 5
Release date: 2021
Grand Theft Auto 5 is the game that simply won’t stop selling, and plans to continue doing so over on its third generation of consoles. Rockstar’s gangster story and perennially popular GTA Online have been confirmed for a 2021 release on Xbox Series X, bringing souped up visuals for the next generation.
Haven
Release date: 2020
Soar across an alien landscape in this co-op RPG adventure. Yu and Kay escaped to the land to be together, but they’ll need to prove their co-operation as they take on puzzles and creatures around the world.
Heavenly Bodies
Release date: 2021
An unusual puzzle game which sees you control the limbs of an astronaut as you struggle with zero-gravity tasks. Arms and limbs are wiggles and kicked to move around a space station, hopefully keeping it operational and not sending you flying out into the great black abyss.
Hitman 3
Release date: January 2021
Concluding the World of Assassination story from the previous two games, Hitman 3 arrives early next year. We’ve had a look at the Dubai level so far, which features towering heights that we can only presume we’ll get to push people off for an awfully long fall.
Hogwarts Legacy
Release date: 2021
Enrol at the most famous wizarding school in the world and exert your influence on its future in this expansive RPG. Set in the 1800s it sees you play a particularly special student of the academy, capable of controlling an Ancient Magic that can be used for good or evil.
Hood: Outlaws and Legends
Release date: 2021
A third person multiplayer action game based loosely on Robin Hood. It seems like it’ll feature multiple teams competing against AI in a darker take on the material.
Horizon Forbidden West
Release date: 2021
Perhaps the biggest exclusive under the PS5’s belt has turned out not to be an exclusive at all. Horizon Forbidden West will release on both PS4 and PS5 when it does arrive, though it's not yet clear if a free upgrade is available. The story joins protagonist Aloy as she travels across North America, tracking a strange infection that’s plaguing the land. It also features giant robot crabs. Now that’s a system-seller. No word of a release date yet, though.
Jett: The Far Shore
Release date: Holiday 2020
Another split-gen title planned for PS4 and PS5. Jett: The Far Shore follows Mei, a scout who’s landed on an ocean planet. From the team behind Swords and Sworcery, it’s likely to intertwine audio and music directly with the visual experience.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Release date: 2021
A new IP and PS5 exclusive, Kena is set in a fantastical world filled with spirits. By amassing companions known as the Rot, you’ll gain new ways to affect the world around you and battle dangerous creatures.
Little Devil Inside
Release date: TBA
We don’t know much about Neostream’s action-adventure RPG Little Devil Inside, as the trailer features third person hopping around and fighting, as well as an old man wandering around his home. The trailer features a unique art style with a large number of fantastical beasts shown off. It’s a Kickstarter game that’ll be coming to PS4 and PC as well after a period of exclusivity on PS5.
Madden NFL 21
Release date: August 25 for current gen, Holiday 2020 for next-gen
Much like FIFA above and NBA below, there are no chance of Madden skipping the next-gen console launch. NFL MVP Lamar Jackson is this year’s cover athlete, and in-game we’ll be getting new control options for both defense and offence.
Marvel’s Avengers
Release date: September 2020 on current gen, on launch for next-gen
The big superhero bash will come with a free upgrade to next-gen, with improved loading times and graphics promised, including that oh-so-desired ray tracing. It’s a co-operative action game in which all the famous Marvel heroes bash drones and military dudes about.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Release date: 2020
After much initial confusion, Miles Morales has been confirmed as a standalone spin-off title built upon the excellent PS4 spidey release. Miles has a unique set of powers that’ll distinguish him from Parker, and the PS5’s DualSense controller is expected to be put to good use here.
Maquette
Release date: 2021
A new puzzle title from Graceful Decay and published by Annapurna Interactive, Maquette has you explore a recursive world, jumping between versions of different scales. Interacting with one will cause the same changes in the others, allowing you to access new areas and progress further through the puzzle. Due to release on both PS4 and PS5, as well as PC.
Metal: Hellsinger
Release date: 2021
Slay to the beat is the tagline of this ungodly rhythm shooter which mixes Doom style gunplay with heavy metal music. Timing and accuracy are the keys to maximizing your score. It’s got the vocal chops behind it thanks to an original soundtrack which features Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz and Trivium’s Matt Heafy.
NBA 2K21
Release date: On launch
2K’s premium sports title is getting a cross-gen release, with this year’s special Mamba Forever Edition commemorating Lakers star Kobe Bryant. The updated next-gen version will feature fancier visuals, but means you’ll need to wait until the consoles release.
Observer: System Redux
Release date: On launch for both consoles
Bloober Team’s dystopian thriller Observer is getting the next-gen treatment, with an upgraded version that takes advantage of the new hardware for 4K and 60 FPS support, while also adding in some new story content to enjoy.
Oddworld: Soulstorm
Release date: 2020
Following 2014’s Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, Soulstorm is a remake of Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus. It follows Mudokon Abe following the start of an uprising, as he attempt to free his people from their slaver overlords, the Glukkons.
Outriders
Release date: 2020
Joining the loot-n-shoot field, Outriders is a co-operative new third person RPG-shooter from Polish studio People Can Fly. Cover-based gunplay is mixed with supernatural powers and sci-fi tech. There’s no PvP here, so the developers have focussed on making the powers fun, rather than balanced.
Overcooked: All You Can Eat
Release date: 2020
Ghost Town Games’ immensely entertaining co-op cook-up is getting a complete bundle for next-gen consoles. All You Can Eat will include both the original and Overcooked 2, with all the DLC released for the games thus far.
Paradise Lost
Release date: 2020
Paradise Lost explores an alternate timeline in which the Second World War didn’t end in 1945. The Nazi regime, on the brink of collapse in 1960, unleashes a nuclear arsenal on Germany and Eastern Europe. Exploring an underground bunker left by the regime near Krakow, Poland, you uncover the dangerous secrets lurking within, twenty years after the deadly blasts.
Planet Coaster: Console Edition
Release date: Holiday 2020
Theme park planning is usually the domain of PC players, but this holiday, Planet Coaster is getting a console release on both PS5 and Xbox Series X. We’ve seen how the controls will be adapted, but expect the full run of content to be included.
Pragmata
Release date: 2022
Pragmata? I hardly know her! Okay, that was a terrible joke, but we really don’t know too much about this strange sci-fi game. Watch the strange CGI reveal above and you can be as confused as us.
Project Athia
Release date: TBA
A new IP under Square Enix’s publishing branch, Project Athia is set is a fantasy world packed with magical creatures and gigantic dragons. The teaser trailer shows a protagonist wielding powerful magical abilities to move and fight. The game is hailed as being “designed exclusively for the PS5,” though it’ll also release on PC.
Quantum Error
Release date: 2021
We don’t hear the genre cosmic-shooter thrown around nearly enough in our opinion. Quantum Error puts you in the boots of a firefighter sent to investigate the Monad Quantum Research Facility where – you guessed it! – the science has gone wrong and some strange horrible thing is causing chaos and spooks. It’ll release on both PS4 and PS5 in 2021.
Rainbow Six Quarantine
Release date: 2020 on current gen
We still know very little about Rainbow Six Siege’s co-op shooter spin-off. Its release is listed as 2020, but with actual countries undergoing quarantine this year, we could see it pushed to next year. Either way, it will be coming to next-gen consoles as well.
Rainbow Six Siege
Release date: On launch
Siege has built up such a dedicated community since its 2015 launch, and Ubisoft are keen to carry that over to next-gen. The plan is to have the online shooter available on the launch of new consoles. Don’t expect any changes, however, as Ubisoft wants to support cross-gen play.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Release date: Around launch
One of the first game’s we’ve been shown that’ll truly take advantage of the PS5’s visual power boost, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart continue the classic duo’s storyline, this time introducing a mysterious female Lombax from another dimension. The PS5’s rapid loading speeds will allow the game to have us jumping between environments faster than ever.
Recompile
Release date: 2020
A platforming and hacking game in which you play as a sentient virus. When we say hacking, it turns out a virus does that through third person action combat and shooting, who would have guessed?
Resident Evil: Village
Release date: 2021
Resident Evil series stalwart Chris Redfield is looking a mite sinister in this continuation of the first-person mainline series. Resi 7’s Ethan Winters is the returning protagonist, this time heading to a snowy european village that appears to have a werewolf problem.
Returnal
Release date: TBA
It might have one of the worst names of recent years, but Returnal certainly has us interested thanks to its premise. A third-person shooter and Roguelite, the game takes place on an alien planet that reshapes itself each time you die. The trailer was giving us control vibes in terms of the story, so we can’t wait to explore the unusual planet to uncover its mysteries.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Little Big Planet may not be back proper, but Sakboy is certainly ready for his own adventure with this 3D platformer that’s got distinct Super Mario vibes. It's a launch title for the PS5, but will also be coming to PS4 with a free upgrade available.
Scarlet Nexus
Release date: TBA
Anime gaming fans have for something to look forward to on next-gen consoles thanks to Bandai Namco’s Scarlet Nexus. Weird alien creatures are invading a city, and only you have the power to fight back using psychokinesis powers. Action combat involves hurling stuff around and slicing enemies up with a sword.
Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One
Release date: 2021
The first of a planned narrative detection series by Frogwares. Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One puts you in a younger version of the esteemed detective, returning to his home following the death of his mother.
Solar Ash
Release date: 2021
Solar ash is the next game from Heart Machine, the studio behind Hyper Light Drifter. Jumping through a gigantic space anomaly (looking suspiciously like a black hole) called the Ultravoid, players will try to keep themselves alive in swift action and traversal sequences.
Stray
Release date: 2021
Winner of the “please tell me I can play as the cat” award from Sony’s reveal show, Stray follows a misplaced moggy as they make their way through a futuristic city filled with robots.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Release date: 2022
It's a long way off, but Rocksteady's next game in their Arkham Universe sees Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark taking on the mightiest superheroes about. It'll be a co-op title for up to four, with each character having unique movement mechanics and weaponry. Beyond that, we don't know much more just yet besides the fact that it's still a long way off.
TemTem
Release date: 2021
Lamenting the lack of Pokemon on non-Nintendo consoles? TemTem is looking to fix that mistake, delivering a colorful cartoon world of creatures to capture and do battle with. TemTem up!
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
Release date: 2021
Gollum is one of the most memorable characters from The Lord of the Rings, meaning it’s a surprise it took so long to get a game from his perspective. What we’ve been told so far is that it’s a stealth-heavy action-adventure based on Smeagol’s time as a ringbearer, before he lost it to those pesky hobbits.
The Pathless
Release date: 2020
Developed by the folks behind Abzu, The Pathless is set in an open world of mythical creatures. As a Hunter, you’re a master of hunting, and work with your eagle companion to rid the world of corruption. Freeform motion is key, with archery allowing you to lock on and boost your speed, rather than relying on careful aiming down sights. Your airborne companion can even carry you, allowing you both to soar into the sky as you cross the land.
Unknown 9: Awakening
Release date: TBA
Shown off during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live stream, Unknown 9: Awakening is the first title from studio Reflector Entertainment. It’s a narrative-driven tale which follows a young girl called Haroona who has strange powers beyond her understanding. The short CGI trailer is pretty much all we know about the game so far, beyond the fact that it’s set in the Unknown 9 universe, which includes several other stories and comic books.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
Release date: 2021
Explore a sultry and often bloody hidden underworld of vampires in Seattle. Attempting to rise through the ranks of various factions, you’ll develop your own abilities, while shifting the balance of power within the city in this first-person RPG.
Warframe
Release date: TBA
Digital Extremes’ sci-fi shooter Warframe will also continue its life on the next generation of consoles, though an official release window has yet to be confirmed.
Watch Dogs Legion
Release date: October 29 for current gen, on launch for next
Set in a dystopian, post-Brexit concept of Britain, Watch Dogs Legion will let you attempt to recruit pretty much anyone off the streets to help your hacker collective. The premise sounds pretty serious, but in reality this is a game in which you can hire a pensioner-age lady to tase guards repeatedly in the face. Cracking stuff.
Worms Rumble
Release date: TBA
Worms tries its hand at the battle royale genre. Ditching turn-based fights for real-time action, Worms Rumble is effectively an arena shooter for up to 32 players. It’ll release on both PS4 and PS5, as well as PC, with cross-platform support included from the start.
WRC 9
Release date: September for current gen, on launch for next-gen
The World Rally Championship will take players to exciting racing locales such as New Zealand and Japan this time, and includes all the rounds of the real-world’s 2020 event. It’s arriving first on current gen, but will be available on next-gen platforms as well.
